This love affair with cats is a great thing, and, if youre thinking about bringing a new kitten home to a house with a resident cat, there are a few steps you can take to help them become lifelong buddies. Pets should be introduced with care and caution. Introductions through a closed door will help each one become familiar with the other an important part of this getting to know you process is done by smell. Once you think theyve gotten familiar with each others scent, make a face-to-face introduction in as calm and relaxed a way as possible. You may want to use treats or kibble to help both cats associate good things with the presence of the other cat. Another great way to get healthy interaction and familiarity is to have a play time that gets both cats involved. In time, an older cat will usually accept a new kitten and may even help take care of her
