Im veterinarian and Purina Cat Chow Mentor Doctor Karen Sueda. Whether youre thinking of adopting a kitten or just welcomed one home, there are some simple things you can do to ensure that hers is a happy, healthy life. One important part of her care is the all-important first vet visit. Soon after you arrive home, contact your veterinarians office to schedule an appointment. Meanwhile, leave your cat carrier out so your kitten has a chance to explore and get comfortable with it – this will make the first ride less stressful. If you adopt your kitten from a shelter or breeder, youll probably get a packet with some important information on what vaccinations your kitten has or hasnt received. Bring this information to your first veterinary visit. At your first appointment, your veterinarian will give your kitten a thorough exam and will explain the schedule of vaccinations this will include feline vaccinations for distemper, herpesvirus, calicivirus and rabies, and might include Feline Leukemia
